Church & Civil Records Timeline
Life in Ireland over the last 400 years or so has generated a fair amount of paperwork, recording the significant milestones in our ancestors lives. The Established Church was firstly responsible for this task, creating parish and diocesan records. The emergence of the state in the Victorian era saw this responsibility shift to new civil institutions. My diagram below tries to show this as a timeline to give you a clear picture of the key time periods that you need to be aware for Irish family history.
