Church = town except when it doesn't ...?
Historically speaking, civil parishes were generally coterminous with ecclesiastical Church of Ireland parishes of the same name, as both took shape from about the 17th century. However, church congregations waxed and waned in the intervening years and although you may find a lot of CoI church parishes were either split apart or joined together to reflect this, you may find that the civil parishes that were based upon the towns and villages in which the churches were originally located remained distinct.
