Chef's Recommendations

For a long time Co. Carlow was not within the RootsIreland fold and there seemed to be no explanation of why this was so?  Church of Ireland records have been available on the excellent free Irish Genealogy site, but curiously transcripts presumably of the Roman Catholic records for the county have not joined them there but have recently appeared on the fee-paying RootsIreland site - anyone know why?

The Carlow IGP page is a veritable feast of material, albeit presented in a bit of an overwhelming set of web pages!

Sadly, the Carlow Archives page is just woeful with absolutely nothing of use...

The Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society website is worth having a roam around.  In particular, they have an indexed online archive of their charmingly named journal, Carloviana, which is sure to contain plenty of local history interest and perhaps even some genealogical gems.   I have also enjoyed a free to view lecture given to the society by Oliver Whelan on "Land holding in the new English settlement of Hacketstown, 1635-1875".
