Monaghan County Library has put together a really good leaflet on Tracing Your Ancestors in County Monaghan, which you can download as a PDF. It's packed with information on surviving records and contact information. The only thing it is frustratingly vague about are surviving Poor Law Records - Clones Branch Library apparently has some for Carrickmacross and Castleblayney, but no more details than that, I'm afraid. Probably best to email them if you plan to visit or want to request a look-up. Be sure to check out the other features on their Local History page (highlighted left) - the Index to Obituaries could point you in the direction of lots of valuable family history information. |
