Chef's Recommendations
The Wicklow IGP page is well populated with useful information, including good descriptions of the geography. Be sure to check out the Wicklow records via this page too as there are some very good cemetery transcriptions plus photographs. From personal experience the staff at the Wicklow County Archives are very helpful. There is also a website run by the county Heritage Office called "Our Wicklow Heritage" which has some useful genealogical topics and links. The chapters of "Wicklow - The Last County" which you can find on there are also an informative read. For a bit more of an academic read, I came across a PhD thesis online entitled "Land and People in Wicklow, 1660-1840" - lots of statistics but plenty of food for thought and lots of interesting references. If the west of the county holds your interest, then you may find further inspiration to search for reading material recommended by the West Wicklow Bookshelf blog. The Royal Irish Academy's Historic Towns Atlas has an edition for Bray. Explore the history and enjoy the maps. |
